Power searches

Power searches give you results from right across the site, making this feature a useful tool if you really want to explore a subject, a period, or even the history of a country.

You are given three option boxes to refine your search:

• Subjects - these are the subject classifications into which we divide our range; you'll notice that we have a lot more than just history texts
• Places - country, region or continent
• Period - broad historical time-spans that get narrower as we move towards the present day

The more options you use the more precise your search results will be. On the Results Page you will be shown:

• Books - click on one option for a full book description and a list of related titles
• Events - relevant historical or cultural events
• Articles - short pieces about specific people, places and events, or more general commentaries
• Timelines - more detailed chronologies of a period, or historical or artistic theme
