Getting paid
A commission of 7% on goods (excluding shipping) is paid on all sales
referred by partners. You'll receive an email each time a sale is made
through one of your links. You can also check how much you are owed at
any time by visiting your personal administration
page.
We send out commission cheques quarterly to all partners who are owed
at least £10. If you are owed less than this, the amount due will
be carried over to the next quarter.
If a visitor clicks on your link and doesn't buy immediately, you don't lose out -- any sales to that person within five days after their visit will automatically be credited to your account (note: this feature requires that the visitor's browser is set to accept cookies -- most are).
For full details of terms, please see our partnership
agreement.
How to link to us
When you sign up, you'll receive an email including linking code for banner and text links which you can simply cut and paste into your Web pages. These will link to our home page. Upload the changed pages to your web server and you are ready to go. See below for instructions on linking to pages other than the home page.
Tip: remember that you are not restricted to linking from web pages. You can also include links in emails, so you can link to us even if you don't have a website! If, for example, you run a local history society that sends out an electronic newsletter to members, you can add text links to it and members can just click to visit the site. Be creative -- use this to link to articles about topics of interest, or review a book and provide a link to it.
Linking to individual titles
You may link directly to individual titles on the History Bookshop site by adding a special code indicating the page onto the end of a normal affiliate link. This is a great way of setting up a mini bookshop on your site, allowing you to select a range of titles that will interest your visitors. All our book pages are generated automatically from a template so you will notice that the URL for an individual title looks like this:
http://www.historybookshop.com/book-template.asp?isbn=1234567890
To link to a title, we suggest you view the page you want to link to in your browser. Then click in the address bar and highlight the part of the URL after the historybookshop.com/ -- in this case book-template.asp?isbn=1234567890 . Press Control-C to copy it. Now you can paste it onto the end of a normal affiliate link using Control-V, prefacing it with &p to indicate it's a page. So a finished text link will look like this:
http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/histbook/t.asp?id=1001&p=book-template.asp?isbn=1234567890
Replace 1001 with your affiliate ID, and 1234567890 with the ISBN of the title you wish to link to. Banner links will work the same way, except that the URL points to b.asp instead of t.asp. As always, check that your affiliate ID is correct -- otherwise you won't be credited with any sales from the link -- and click on the link to test it.
This technique can be used to link to any page on the site, so you could link to articles and timelines as well. Take a look at our constantly growing article index to see the range of subjects covered.
A tip: your links to individual titles will be even more effective if you add your own commentary about the title you are linking to.
