AeneidThe greatest work of Virgil, and the national epic of the Roman people. It was completed in 12 books but, as he had not revised it, Virgil expressed a wish that it might be destroyed. It was published after his death by order of Augustus. It contains an account of the wanderings and the settlement of Aeneas after the siege of Troy. It has often been translated into English, both in prose and verse.
