Sophia, Saint (Hagia Sophia)(Greek Hagia Sophia, Holy Wisdom), name of many churches, the most famous being Saint Sophia in Constantinople, built for the Emperor Justinian by Anthemius of Trailes and Isidore of Miletus, and consecrated in 538. The Holy Wisdom of Logos was a term used of Christ, to whom the churches of this name are dedicated. After the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople (now Istanbul) Saint Sophia became a mosque. With the overthrow of the sultanate it became a museum.
