Duncan I, King of Strathclyde (c1034-40) and Scotland (1034-40)d.1040Duncan became king of Scotland following the death of Malcolm II in 1034, who died without a male heir. His unsuccessful attack on Northumbria in 1039 allowed Macbeth to challenge for his throne. Duncan led his army into Macbeth's kingdom of Moray only to be slain in battle.
He died in his twenties and was not the old man portrayed by Shakespeare in his play Macbeth.
