Cosimo, Piero dib. 1462; d. 1521Italian
painter, born in Florence. He was a pupil of Cosimo Rosselli. Leonardo exercised
great influence over him. A painter of whimsical imagination, he delighted in
picturing animals, satyrs and centaurs. Vasari mentions various pictures of his
in Florence among which is the Perseus and Andromeda (Uffizi Gallery). Some of
his best works are Mythological Subject (National Gallery), Coronation
of the Virgin (Louvre); and Venus and Cupid (Berlin). |
