The PlantagenetsThis surname was first applied to Geoffrey of Anjou who wore a sprig of broom (the Planta Genesta) in his helmet. Geoffrey's son became Henry II, the first in a line of Plantagenet kings who ruled England from 1154 to 1399.
The dynasty is alternatively known as the Angevins because of its origins in Anjou.
